NEW MEXICO

In the 2024 general election in New Mexico, Democrats maintained their control of the major statewide federal offices: Kamala Harris won the state’s five electoral votes for president by roughly a 6-point margin over Donald Trump.

In the U.S. Senate race, incumbent Martin Heinrich (D) was reelected to a third term, defeating Republican challenger Nella Domenici.

All three U.S. House seats in the state were also retained by Democrats, leaving the partisan balance in the House delegation unchanged.

At the state legislative level, there were minimal shifts: Democrats retained majorities in both chambers, with Republicans gaining one seat in each chamber but not enough to shift control.

Notably, the election also faced some operational challenges — including a significant increase in provisional ballots resulting from delays in same‑day voter registration processing.
