VIRGINIA

In the 2024 general election in Virginia, Kamala Harris won the state’s 13 electoral votes with about 51.8% of the vote, defeating Donald Trump, who received roughly 46.0%. 41 of Virginia's 133 counties helped carry Harris's win.

Meanwhile, in the U.S. Senate race, Tim Kaine (D) secured re-election with approximately 54.4% of the vote to his Republican opponent’s ~45.4%.

For the U.S. House of Representatives, all 11 of Virginia’s seats were contested, and the party breakdown remained unchanged — Democrats held six and Republicans five — with the Democrats receiving about 51.4% of the statewide House popular vote to the Republicans’ 47.6%.

Analysts noted that Virginia illustrated a trend where, despite a nationwide swing toward Republicans, the state’s federal races remained favorable to Democrats, though with somewhat narrower margins than in 2020.
