MICHIGAN

In the 2024 general election in Michigan, former President Donald Trump carried the state’s 15 electoral votes by a narrow margin—about 49.7 % to roughly 48.3 %—flipping the state back to the Republicans after Democrats won it in 2020.

Meanwhile, in the U.S. Senate race the Democrat Elissa Slotkin narrowly held the seat for her party despite Trump’s win in the state.  At the legislative level, Republicans gained control of the Michigan House of Representatives, flipping several seats and shifting the chamber to 58 Republicans vs. 52 Democrats.

Voter turnout reached a record high, with the state reporting more than 5.7 million votes cast (roughly 74.6 % of eligible voters) and over 60 % of ballots cast early or by mail—driven in part by recent voting-access reforms.

Overall, Michigan reaffirmed its status as a key battleground state with tight margins and split results across federal and state contests.
